The tech is called VC-Turbo, and the engine's compression ratio seamlessly varies from between 8:1 (for harder driving) and 14:1 (for fuel efficiency). Infiniti is going after the likes of the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5 with its latest SUV - the new QX50 , which has been revealed in full at the La Motor Show ahead of a UK launch late next year. Also featuring in the all-new SUV are the company's latest ProPilot driver-assistance technologies that enable the QX50 to accelerate, brake and steer autonomously during single-lane highway driving.

Front-wheel drive versions of the QX50 VC-T offer a 35 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the outgoing petrol V6, while all-wheel-driven variants see a 30 per cent economy gain. The single frontal image doesn't offer any surprises, looking very much like a toned-down version of the QX50 concept revealed at the Detroit motor show earlier this year (below). The 2018 Infiniti QX50 has been revealed in a single image ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles motor show next week.
